Editing should be your reward for the hard graft you've put in when shooting. But I often see people expressing how editing is what they hate about this job. I'm pretty sure thats down to the cycle of disappointment. We've all taken that perfect shot we're excited about, we click import and jump straight to it with all hopes of getting that onto our social media ASAP! And then you start your edit, but somethings not quite right. You start tweaking....nothing is getting it to what you imagined. Before you know it you've spent 30 minutes tweaking the same image and getting more frustrated. This is not editing! This is the effect of a badly built preset you're using and/or, the way you've shot it.
This mentoring course covers everything to give you confidence and knowledge when it comes to image making and post production and the things we cover are vast but are structured in a way that you will no longer be in the cycle of disappointment and wasting your time inefficiently tweaking.
We will cover: workflow and how to achieve 100% control, Lightroom in-depth, creating a bespoke preset to give you the exact look you want, how to get it right in camera to help aid your editing, lightroom tools, and an optional look at Alien Skin Exposure looking at double processing, and other effects this software does to enhance your final product.
This course is now done over 2 Days - Back to Back. And is done on a 1:1 basis with Amy-Leigh. This means its quick, and we focus solely on you and your vision!
Day One / Morning Session
Here we cover everything we need to understand in order to help us achieve the control needed in Lightroom.
Topics covered:
- What kit you’re shooting and what role that plays in image making. How the sensor records colour, whether this needs correcting within your custom preset build and how I do this.
- Shooting - We dive in to how you’re shooting your kit and question whether this is serving you for the style and end result you’re looking for. Too often we heavily rely on a preset to do the work when we could be shooting better for a more refined style. We also heavily focus on shooting for maximum consistency.
- Lightroom - Here we talk raw file processing and raw file conversion, what Lightroom does and why this is a hindrance to our editing.
- Workflow - We will implement a structured workflow for all editing going forward.
- White Balance - Learn how to control white balance and get this technically correct using the histogram. No more guess work!
Day One / Afternoon - Preset Development
Here we develop your custom presets going through a structured way of building these together. This includes set periods of preset testing and refinements.
Day Two - How to get the very best from your editing and presets!
This is a very fluid free flowing day focused around anything and all things editing.
- We will edit your work with your presets and talk about how to control the less than ideal lighting scenarios.
- We make any necessary tweaks to the set of custom presets.
- Look at further post processing and using other software like Exposure to finish off and polish up the editing.
Future catch up session (at least 2 weeks after initial 2 days) - This is after you’ve had time to use the presets, we have a catch up session where we can make a last set of amendments to your custom presets and relook at where consistency is within your work after editing with them.
HOW IT WORKS

All of my sessions are delivered via Zoom and can be recorded at your request. I accommodate for all time zones. I also accommodate for any neurodiverse clients and welcome any and all skill levels. This is a safe space for education and is all about levelling up your work with zero judgement.
